Dear Family,
This is one of those tough mornings. I was up most of the night writing and can barely stay awake this morning. Come on, this is silly. I used to pull all-nighters all the time with no ill effects. Why is it so hard to keep my eyes open today? Hmmm…must be the gloom and drizzle. Perhaps if it were less cloudy, and the bald-faced opossum were not rambling across my fence, I’d be more awake and aware. I know, some of you find that creature cute and adorable. Rick calls them one of God’s mistakes.
Bizarre things happening this week. A serious case of misplaced anger yesterday. You can read about it in today’s MarketWatch column.
And interest message I’ve gotten this week from tax professional whom I’ve ugpraded to full family members. In both cases, they said something like, sheesh, you have no idea what a rough day it’s been. You’ve just brightened up my day.
My friends, it occurs to me that there is never a wrong time to do something nice for someone. Surprise someone with a totally random, unexpected act of kindness today.
This is International Mother Language Week. Tamie and I were discussing the languages we learned growing up. Knowing, smugly, that we can revive our fluency in those languages in no time at all. So, who is the next generation so indifferent to learning the language of their parents and grandparents.
Some children be really odd. I had a friend once who used to tell me about the strange lady who lived with them. She used to sit in the corner of the house with her steaming samovar. He rarely spoke to that weird creature. (That’s how he saw her.) Speaking to his mother, I learned this man had been speaking of his grandmother! Since he couldn’t communicate with her, in his mind, she barely existed. That’s so sad.
Solution? If your relative, or your childrens’ speak a language your children don’t understand, help them learn to communicate.
