Ask TaxMama Issue 625 – Happy Friday The 13th

We have some exciting news in our TaxMama EA Exam Review Class family. Not one, but TWO of our students have been appointed to the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel  (TAP). Boris Mikhail and Terri Klug are on the team, working with the Taxpayers Advocate Service to help improve the Internal Revenue Service’s interactions with taxpayers.  Hip, hip, hooray!

Not only are we very proud of them both – but we have yet one more way to bring suggestions to the attention of the IRS.

TaxMama’s Tax Calendar has been updated for 2012, with enough information to carry you through to the first quarter of 2013. Now you have no excuse to forget deadlines.

Our tour of iShade was very interesting – both for tax professionals and for taxpayers. For taxpayers, they have developed tools that will help you find a tax professional in your local community – and identify them by specific skills or areas of expertise important to you. Simply use the FIRMS tab. There are wonderful resources and applications, including a customizable bulletin/news system – which includes a daily Dilbert comic strip. There’s even an interesting desktop widget that lets you track your referrals, both in and out.

For tax pros, you can create a robust site, with all kinds of details – some of which you can share with the public; other things you can keep private, just within your own firm.

I’d like to welcome attorney Barbara Waltman to the TaxMama® family of tax experts. We’ll be including her monthly column in Ask TaxMama. I’ve often pointed out some of her Idea of the Day tips.  You may want to sign up for your own copy, too.

We’ll be showcasing some of my other special friends in weeks to come.

Right now, I need to get ready to teach today’s CPE Link class. It’s my last tax season update, in case you still need some orientation – Top 10 Tax Changes for 2011 Filing. Although my next class is not for a while, you’ll find some other really useful courses on Excel, California tax updates, dealing with payrolls. While they are designed for tax pros, the instructors are so good, anyone can understand them!

Oh yes, remember to call me on Monday, when I’m on the air with Bob McCormick for two hours on KFWB. 9 am – 11 am PACIFIC.  Call us 888-KFWB-980 (888-539-2980)

NOTE: There will be a special EA Study Group for Part 2 tomorrow morning, run by Vaidehi Patel. 9:00 am Pacific. Just use the log in you got in yesterday’s email. Or look at the link to TODAY’S class on the Board.
