Happy 60th Birthday to Stevie G!
January 15th already. My how time flies. Today, your 4th estimated tax payment is due for 2009. You may need to make a payment you didn’t realize you owed. If you received the benefit of the Making the Work Pay Credit, please check to make sure you have not been under-withheld. http://www.marketwatch.com/taxes
Even MORE important. You will also find information on how to make deductible donations to Haitian Earthquake Relief providers. The people in Haiti experienced unprecedented destruction. What’s worse, getting help to them is impeded due to the extent of the disaster – and a government that was never strong enough to build a solid infrastructure. Relief workers, supplies, equipment to provide potable water, medical personnel and more are on the scene and can’t be brought to the victims in a timely manner. Pray for these people – and, as always, be generous. But be careful. Don’t make donations to phony organizations. Do read the information in today’s IRS News.
This is also a long weekend for organizations that observe Federal holidays. Monday is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Those of us who grew up during his lifetime know what a different world it used to be. Freedoms and privileges you take for granted were fought for – peacefully – by a great man and the people he inspired. If you are a person of color and can sit on any bus seat, walk into any restaurant or bathroom, or hotel, through the front door, and get treated with dignity – please, take a moment to thank Reverend King. If you can get a job anywhere, based on your skills, rather than your skin – pause and say thanks. I remember. Do you? The world is a very different place because of this stubborn, kind, peaceful man.
Please add ONE helpful tip to WeFoundASolution.com this week. This week, you can read more about Dr. Joyce Starr’s new book – SECONDHAND SMOKE CRIMES: When Neighbors Poison You, Your Family & Pets
TaxMama’s TaxWatch column is weekly again. This week, read about how to find a GREAT tax professional. Thanks to all of you who sent in your tips. You will see your name in print! Oddly enough, all the tips came from California.
Today’s Money Funny about Grandpa and the IRS. You gotta watch out for old folks!
This week, you will find TaxMama in the San Francisco Chronicle, Bankrate, and more.
On January 27th, tune up your radios. TaxMama is doing a nationwide radio tour for Office Depot. From the comfort of my own office, I will visit dozens of radio stations, offering a variety of tax tips. Stay tuned for more details!
In TaxQuips this week we start with a financial advisor giving really bad advice about a Roth rollover – and Rita Lewis of http://dollarssense.com/ coming up with a solution I forgot to bring up. It will save the client a fortune. We also learn more about tax bankruptcies; child tax credits and repossessed property.
As always, we love your feedback, opinions and ideas.
You are what makes all this fun – and interesting!
