NOL Deadline Today

Thank Goodness It s Over!

Dear Family,

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

A milestone today – Ask TaxMama issue number 500.
And it turns out to be TaxQuip number 1200!

This has been an intense tax season, with the tax laws changing on us, seemingly every few days. I really want to thank all of you for helping, adding your comments, asking your questions – and just being there for us.

You really help to clarify the issues and crystalize the questions. And you make it a joy!

I promised you a gift. Ta Daaaaa!

An iphone app just for you – TaxMama’s Tax Calendar right on your own iphone! Just go to the iphone store and search for Tax Calendar or iTaxMama. It’s Freeeee!

Incidentally, did you know that you can listen to TaxQuips on your iphone too? Yup. Just search for…what else? TaxQuips. (I keep forgetting to tell you.)

Something else interesting is coming your way. Remember a couple of weeks ago I introduced you to Dr. Joyce Starr? Well, she is an amazing advocate for your rights, in many areas. We’re going to team up to offer you some workshops on a number of things this summer. So stay tuned. For now, you can listen to our discussion about the Tax Day TEA Parties and the Fair Tax iniative and Flat Tax concept. Read the related article.

Please, feel free to add your comments. Tell us how you feel about the tax dollars you pay and how the money is being used. And if you have a better idea for a tax system, add your comments, too.

People in this country are angry. Rightly so. There are PRODUCTIVE ways to protest and to improve the situation. I mention some of them in my conversation with Dr. Starr. In addition, I’ve gathered something together for you – the contact information of your Federal government officials. Use it to make your voice heard. When you do, outline one specific problem and propose a viable solution. Please, don’t just rant.

Remember, not to totally bore you, but…We’re going to launch We Found A Solution at the end of this month when I return from vacation. (It occurred to me that there is no point into doing press releases and a big launch if am not here to answer questions…silly girl!) Please, in the meantime, sign up for our newsletter, and/or add a tip and/or tell 10 or 1000 people! Thanks.
We Found A Solution

Please join me at a CSEA DigiTAX courses on May 13th and August 5th. And consider taking some of the other excellent courses being offered.

  • May 13, 09 – 11:00 am – CSEA – Audio Tax – Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About the EA ExamInstead of answering the same questions over and over again all day, let me answer your questions all at once!
  • Aug 5, 09 – 11:00 am – CSEA – Audio Tax – Hobby Loss Rules and how to Overcome Them
This class is for folks with small businesses who are struggling, as well as for the tax professionals who represent you. I am getting lots of questions from people who are concerned about being audited…or are in the process of being audited.

This week’s TaxWatch column for MarketWatch will help you locate your IRS and state tax refunds, what to do if you 1099s from defunct financial institutions for income you will never receive, and the real reasons to get an extension.

Note: Someone told me that she tried to use the IRS tools to file her extension online for FOUR HOURS on the 15th and finally gave up in frustration and tears at 12:27 am. IRS has no sympathy. She will be subject to all normal late filing penalties. (Or not…if she begs nicely. Sigh)

This week’s AccountingWeb.com blog is about a TaxMama rant on Tax Freedom Day.
https://www.accountingweb.com/cgi-bin/item.cgi?category_cs=1628
(After you read it, I want you to know,…Ms. Minion got me those additional documents about 5 minutes after I finished the rant. I should be so ashamed!)

In IRS News this week, DEADLINE FOR FILING NET OPERATING LOSS ELECTIONS IS TODAY! Take advantage of the IRS resources for your specific business or industry; and beware! IRS just released the 2009 Dirty Dozen list. Are you filing a scammy tax return?

In today’s Money Funny we learn some good Interview Techniques – and that persistence counts
https://taxquips.com/index.php?cat=MoneyFunnies

In TaxQuips this week, we are exposed to some interesting ideas – transferring your minimum required distributions from your IRA to a Roth IRA; can you treat a forced sale of stock like a casualty loss; additional income dramatically increases the taxability of your Social Security income; and whether or not you can directly deposit your tax refund when you don’t efile – but file on paper.

As always, we love your feedback, opinions and ideas.

You are what makes all this fun – and interesting!
