Dear Family,
Breaking news! An hour ago, President Bush signed an extension to unemployment benefits, giving non-workers another 7 weeks of income. That should get them through Christmas. But will they be able to find jobs in time? (We’ll be working on a fr_e_e tax and financial guide for the unwillingly unemployed. Expect to see this before Christmas, so you can give a fine gift to people you know.)
Lots of people sent notes about their reminiscences of Rocky and Bullwinkle. Some memories are just fun, aren’t they?
This coming week, it will be Thanksgiving.
Click on the graphic above for fun ideas and activities during the holiday.
Can you believe we’re already so close to the end of 2008? This must have been one of the fastest years on record. Drop me a note to taxmama@taxmama.com?subject=GivingThanks and tell me what you are most grateful for this year. Who or what is the best thing that happened to you?
taxmama@taxmama.com?subject=GivingThanks
Me? Goodness! I’ve met so many new people who are talented, enthusiastic and always inspiring. Now that I think about it, it’s pretty astonishing to meet so many people like that in one year – some, without ever having left the house. I’m grateful for all my old friends, especially my official stalker, Kris, and her daughter, Katie, the stalker trainee; Eva, who drags me out of my little hole brings pretties; Cindy, who brought a new man into my life – and keeps monitoring my health; and Roger and Maria who were amazing and warm hosts in Portugal; and Andrew, who’s getting us focused; and Lulu who brings sunshine in every morning; and Rick who keeps dreaming up ways to make us smile (more than we already do); and… and… and… so many people. And every single one of you – when you write to me, and help us all, and keep us laughing, and on the right path.
Next Friday, there won’t be a regular issue. Ask TaxMama will be about you and your stories. So please, send them to me. At times like these, it’s so important to think about the good things in our lives. The more we smile and put out positive energy, the more contagious that is. (Are you smiling yet?)

In today’s IRS News we have exciting information for you. The Internal Revenue Service Advisory Council just released it’s annual report. There are recommendations about things that will affect your business and your life in the coming year. Take some time to scan it and see how this affects you personally. I will most likely be summarizing some of the high points very soon.

We’ll keep pointing you to IRS’s disaster site – more disaster areas include Peoria County, Ill., and Missouri
In TaxQuips this week, we started out with a lesson on the passive loss limitations, we learned about a variety of New Jersey ‘exit taxes’ (did we debunk any myths?), and ended the week learning more about the earned income tax credit – and how to get the Stimulus Rebate next year if you haven’t gotten it yet.

As always, we love your feedback, opinions and ideas.
