An accountant tries horseback riding: Yesterday I had a near death experience that has changed me forever. I went horseback riding. Everything was going fine until the horse starts bouncing out of control. I tried with all my might to hang on, but was thrown off. Just when things could not possibly get worse, my […]
Dear Family, Next week, folks who are young at heart and have a sense of fun, get to enjoy Halloween. But if you want to celebrate early, you might do something like the folks in Independence, Kansas have been doing – celebrating Neewollah (that’s Halloween backwards). See if there is a Neewollah celebration in your […]
Today TaxMama wants to ask you. “What is your most terrifying tax tale? What is the worst thing that IRS or your state tax agency ever did to you? Or the most embarrassing thing? Did your ex-spouse or ex-lover get you in trouble? Or did your tax professional mess up big time?” Please tell us […]
Dear Family, Don’t forget to change your clocks Saturday night. Yup, I could tell you stories of times when I didn’t. You probably have stories, too, don’t you? Anyway… I have great news – and bad news. First the great news. It’s VERY exciting! Not only will Congress be extending the $8,000 first time homebuyers […]
Hospital Hostility An extremely ill man was in the hospital for a series of tests, the last of which left him feeling as if he constantly had to have a bowel movement. After several uneventful trips to the bathroom, he decided the latest episode was just another false alarm and stayed put. Suddenly he filled […]
It’s 6:30 a.m. and I can hardly keep my eyes open.
Aside from all the travel, I have to admit that I have a terrible, deep, dark secret when it comes to books. Shh….please, don’t tell anyone.
When it’s a good book, and I am more than halfway through it at the end of the day, I a compelled to finish reading the book before I go to sleep. It’s an uncontrollable reaction to really good writing. Have you ever read anything my Orson Scott Card? His stories have fully developed characters that you come to care about. They are well researched and follow totally logically, once you accept the science fiction premise of the story. This book was Pastwatch: The Redemption of Christopher Columbus. VERY RELEVANT for today’s world!
Actually, I need to go back and read his whole body of work. Some of his books, I read more than 20+ years ago – it’s time to re-read them.
Anyway, once again, operating on about 2-3 hours of sleep, I bring you today’s issue of Ask TaxMama.
Note: For those who could not find yesterday’s edition? Apologies. It seems the newsletter went out prematurely. The site went live after the newsletter. See what happens when you set everything up so you can go out of town and cover your responsibilities for the week before you hit the road! The link works just fine now.
REMEMBER TO GO OUT AND VOTE ON TUESDAY! VOTE FOR SOMEONE!
It’s an important eletion – and even the ballot measures are important.
Our Job Advice of the Week is about remembering to smile during your interview. Hmmm…something you should do when you record video lessons, too, I would think. I wonder if I remembered to smile? Oh well, we’ll find out.
Today Money Funny brings up the spirit of Halloween. Incidentally, if you didn’t get a chance to get candy, consider another alternative. Hand out books and toys you’ve outgrown. Very few calories. The children are apt to see this as a refreshing change from all the chocolate and candy they’re used to getting.
In today’s IRS News we learnd that 279,000 people seeking Stimulus Refunds and regular refunds filed tax returns with incorrect addresses. They haven’t received over $266 million – because the checks IRS sent out came back undeliverable. If you’re one of those people who were in the process of moving when you filed (or shortly afterwards) and didn’t have the forsight to use your new address on your tax return…read today’s IRS News to learn how to salvage your refunds.
TaxQuips this week includes questions about deducting mileage when you do pro bono work, the tax consequences of Daddy paying off a mortgage, sort of day trading, and dealing with a bounced paycheck.
As always, we love your feedback, opinions and ideas.
