Ask TaxMama Issue 478 – Save Your Neighbor – Save the World

Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Dear Family,

It’s a whole new year – 5769 – and a whole new tax season gearing up – 2008.

By now, you’ve either filed your 2007 tax return, or like many who’ve been writing to me, or calling, you’re still too paralyzed to have finished up your bookkeeping. If you find yourself in that position – and end up getting behind, what do you thing life is telling you? Especially if this happens often?

It’s telling you that you have a mental block against doing the bookkeeping. Something powerful, within yourself, is holding you back. When you have this much resistance to something, what’s the best thing to do? Face the facts. You’re never going to get it done. And if you do, it won’t be done well.

So right now is a good time to decide that it’s time to turn all your bookkeeping over to someone who loves to do it. Either hire someone in-house to come in full or part time. Or hire bookkeeper or tax professional who will do a terrific job for you. Getting the right person to work with you will relieve enormous pressure from your shoulders. It will also free you up to do the things you love – like sell your products or services; create products or provide the services – or even just to take the occasional day off without guilt.

Where to go?

There are two places that offer bookkeeper certifications:

You can find tax professionals at

Last week, I asked you for your ideas on how to help your neighbors, local schools or schoolchildren, unemployed folks in your community or industry, seniors, those with disabilities. Thank you for your ideas and responses.

But you weren’t the only one I asked. I put the question out to others around the country. As a result, I have received a wealth of wonderful ideas. Far too many to fit into the (maximum) 1600 word article for MarketWatch (which should be up any day now). So, I’ve decided to turn all the responses into an e-evolving e-book. It will be compiled of all the ideas you sent it – and will continue to send in. You will be able to distribute it to all your friends and neighbors and anyone in your community that needs ideas on how to hold it all together with less money (or no money), without child care, or homes or…
It will be my gift to you.

People need something like this so we can restore our pride in America, our sense of community and camaraderie and simply to survive in tough times. MarketWatch is looking into how they can get on board so we can get even more general distribution of the complimentary e-book. Hopefully, we’ll be able to compile this and get the first version out by the beginning of November.

Please continue to send your ideas and stories to taxmama@taxmama.com – be SURE to put POSITIVE IDEA in the subject line. Include information about yourself that you’re willing to see in print.

In TaxQuips this week touched off some passionate discussions about folks who refuse to provide their taxpayer identification numbers for 1099-MISC purposes; folks working on tips who think they don’t have to report all their income; how low-income folks can get extra money back with your paycheck throughout the year; and whether or not a pool can be deductible for medical purposes.

Since it’s summer, and you’re probably going to be traveling with your family, consider getting matching T-shirts and/or hats.
