Dear Family,

Tax season is officially over - at least for those of us blessed by not living in the disaster areas.

For those of you in disaster areas, you have more time. Each area has it's own deadline. IRS has a page to let you look up your due date, by state or locale.

For those of you not in disaster areas, but haven't filed, I've got some help for you.

And for those of you who have filed - I have some tips to help you get ready for next year. Meanwhile....

I have finished (calendar year) tax season 2003!

Another milestone passed. The Bush/Kerry debates.

A big focus of the debates was to help undecided voters crystalize their thinking. This was certainly evident in the make-up of the audiences, and the way the questions were solicited.

Listening to the two candidates, I am sad to say that they devoted far too much time to running down each other's accomplishments. Only, in the lengthy careers each has had, if these men and their staffs were really creative, don't you think they could have found many more errors if they really tried? I was getting totally bored hearing the same litany of sins over and over and over again during each debate. At least if you were going to be a professional put-down artist, take the time to come up with variety and hold my attention.

Where are Winston Churchill and George Bernard Shaw when you need them?

What IS interesting about this election is the attention being paid to college students. Many are from out of state and don't really figure into the demographics of the carefully gerrymandered districts politicians have carved out. To the great dismay of the various campaigns' pollsters, they've come to realize that college students who register and vote at college can change the electoral votes for their state.

And while Michael Moore is on the college trail encouraging students to get out the vote, hoping to build up more of a Democratic base, listening to some of the students interviewed on TV, I am hearing some of them come out firmly for Bush.

Regardless whether Moore's campaign to get Kerry elected succeeds or not, I am thrilled that he is galvanizing students and getting them involved in voting again. It's good to see the passion again.
