Dear Family,

Hooray for Congress!

Both the House and Senate passed the tax bill and extended many of the tax cuts that had temporary lives.

"The final bill extends the marriage penalty provisions for four years, the $1,000 child credit for five years, and the 10 percent bracket for six years."

There was nothing about extending the estate tax laws or the 529 education plan laws. But we have more time before those rules expire.

The debate last night was interesting. President Bush reprimanded Senator Kerry two or three times about the way he referred to other world leaders as puppets or in other derrogatory terms. Bush pointed out that you can't establish diplomatic relations with world leaders if you speak of them that way. For me, that was the only really surprising thing about the debates.

  1. That Bush was savvy enough to say something like that. And
  2. That Kerry was sufficiently tactless to speak of world leaders that way.

I haven't made up my mind yet about who to vote for. Too bad we can't get someone to run that I'd feel better about - where IS Peter Ueberroth when you need him?

Hopefully your new year is starting well.

I've met some really interesting women this week. It's always so exciting to see success and good things come to people. One of them is Meryl Getline, a pilot for United Airlines. Isn't that a kick? How many women do you know in the left seat of a commercial plane?

Darcy Luadzers and I had the best time talking sex yesterday. Darcy does a lot of that - people confide in her, even more than they confide in me about their sex lives. Uh, do you think it might be because she's a sex therapist?

I'll tell you more about these two very interesting ladies in this issue.

And for those of you who've been wondering if you'll ever see me again - I am putting the final touches on THE BOOK, and sending it off to McGraw-Hill on Monday. Then, it's in the hands of my publisher for the final edits, index and off to the printing presses.

Who knows, with tax season also coming to an end, I may finally leave the house again -- this year!

Hugs to all.
