Dear Family,

This week has been filled with convention rhetoric. Forunately, I heard very little of it, since we've all been at the EA Exam Review class every night.

But if you saw all the hoopla, with the baloons and confetti released over the convention hall, you might like to know the numbers.
  • 100,000 biodegradable balloons
  • 1,000 pounds of confetti
  • 80 nets -- each filled with about 2,500 balloons -- will be released by workers pulling on 100-pound-strength fishing line.
  • At the same time, eight industrial fans will shoot out the tissue-paper confetti.

All this, at the insignificant cost of a quarter million dollars!

How would you feel, as a voter, if one day, a candidate were to say - hey, all this spending on campaigning and conventions is out of control. I'm going to take all the money in my coffers and spend it directly on the people who need them - the voters. And then, use that money to provide child care, to train people for jobs, to give scholarships to students, to help struggling small businesses grow, to properly fix a damaged road, to build a home for someone who can't afford one, or even to help unemployed people pay off some debts .... ah well ... just a fantasy.

Last week, I asked you what's your favorite way to goof off. Some of you told me ... You'll enjoy the answers - see Goofing Off.

I've had a hard time staying awake and focusing on my work today. What do you do to get your focus back? And get on track?

Drop me an email if you care to share.

OK, time to write my lecture for tomorrow morning. I want it to be really, really good.

Have a great weekend. Enjoy the end of July.

Hugs to all.
