Responsibility!
Let me tell you what's making me fume. First of all, let it be known that I live in Los Angeles. Our city is gridlocked daily because of a bus strike by the drivers for the Metropolitan Transit Authority. The strike has been on for about three weeks. Recently, Mayor Riordan used the word 'inconvenience' with respect to the strike. He doesn't get it! People are not simply inconvenienced. Many of them have lost their jobs because they have no means or money to GET TO WORK. Sally, who lives in Hollywood, was laid off just before the strike. And her car died, but she had no money to repair it. So started using the bus to seek work. She was offered a job at a wonderful nursery in Malibu - but with the strike, she has no way to get there. She lost that opportunity. So, she went to every single florist and nursery within walking distance of her home. And, being young, that was quite a radius. But there were no openings. Without a bus, she can't fix her car, pay her rent, even eat. If she didn't have friends to take her in, she'd be on the street. And Sally's got it good. What about all those people on minimum wage or barely more, who have to support children? Let me tell you what makes this even worse... "Meanwhile, the rolling strikes by L.A. County workers is in its fourth day, with King Drew Medical Center among the targets." (KFWB.com) So now, we have health risks, too. This is just the beginning.
The teachers have voted to give their union authorization to strike if
their new contract does not meet their needs. And tomorrow, the school
bus drivers will be voting to authorize their union to strike, too.

I always thought that everything related to Tax matters was dull. Especially Tax Professionals ... that is till I subscribed to I-Helpdesk_WebReview ... Eva moderates her list with incredible warmth and humor ... her humor section is sometimes (not too often :-) funnier than our own Jest for Pun. Although I've never used her Tax Services (don't earn enough to worry about such stuff :-) I'm willing to bet that it'll be 'interest'ing ! ... Gunjan, Jest for Pun |
