Carpeting The Issue

From: New Orleans, LA

I recently had someone install carpet in a rental unit I bought. Do I include the labor in the capitalized cost or just the material?

Can I expense the carpet man's labor or do I need to depreciate it?

I would greatly appreciate your help.

Hi Brian,

That's actually a pretty astute question. And it depends on how risk averse you might be.

Generally, I'd say, the whole cost is capitalized.

You'll find more information than you want on the subject, right here.

Best wishes,
