Got Refund

From: Berea, KY

Dear TaxMama,

I have a refund due from my State tax.

I owe the IRS.

Will I receive the State refund?

Danny

Hi Danny,

Now, how would I know that?

My crystal ball is on the fritz today.

It all depends on how long you've been owing IRS.

If you just owe IRS for this year, odds are, the state authorities don't know about that yet.

So, you'll get your money.

If you owe IRS money from earlier years, it's quite likely that your state will have been alerted to divert your refund to IRS.

Best wishes,
