» From: Rochester, NY Dear TaxMama: Wondered if you could help ... I just rec'd a "denial to review packet" notice from the IRS regarding my 2nd 2003 tax extension request, which they have dated as rec'd on 9/15/2004. I never rec'd any notice whether approved or denied for the first extension, which I either e-filed or sent in by mail on 4/15/2004. So how could I find out whether the first extension was granted or not? Lastly, if I have a refund coming back to me for NYS and the IRS and I just filed my return on 9/15/2004, will I suffer from penalties and interest of any type? Thanks for your help, Pam ![]() Hi Pam, If you have refunds coming, don't worry about the extension. Late penalties are based on balances due. You won't have any, so .... you're cool. Incidentally, that first extension was an Automatic Extension - so, it's automatically approved. No notice needed. Best wishes, Eva Rosenberg Your TaxMama |
