1065 eFile Program

IRS is aggressively pushing the electronic filing requirement of partnership returns (and LLCs filing as partnerships) when there are 100 or more partners.

I just got a nice, glossly letter today, advising me that my partnership (on which I filed a final return last year), consisting of my husband and myself, may be subject to the filing requirements.

In other words, if you got one of those flyers, and you know your partnership has just a handful of partners, or less, don't panic. Everyone is getting the letters.

You weren't targeted.

On the other hand, just because you don't have 100 partners is no reason NOT to efile your partnerships. In fact, we've started using that option for some of our clients this year. We hope to extend it to nearly all partnership clients next year.

Regarding direct deposits of refund when you eFile your personal return - It's something I prefer not to do - and it's a service I prefer not to offer. There are too many ways to make mistakes in the process, or to have IRS accidentally transfer it to the wrong account.

Read about the advenures of a Fortune 500 executive who used direct deposit of his $90,000+ 2002 refund - in the next issue of Taxing Times from CBS.MarketWatch.com
