Congressional Update

Courtesy of NAEA
- The National Association of Enrolled Agents

Congress is poised to adjourn for the July 4th recess. In the tax arena, negotiations continue on eliminating illegal tax subsidies that have caused tariffs to be raised on a number of U.S. exports. This is the legislation expected to result in a corporate rate cut and perhaps a number of special interest "sweeteners" to help ensure passage.

Meanwhile, the House continues to pass various tax relief measures. The latest is a measure which would permit taxpayers to roll over up to $500 in unused dependent care savings held in a flexible spending account rather than forfeiting the money. This money can be applied to care for children under 13, disabled spouses, parents, or other dependent adults.
