» From: Valencia, PA Dear TaxMama: My employer not only did not give me a W-2, but when I looked at my last pay stub, he was using the wrong Social Security number for me. I know that I can use form 4852 to get the W-2. But what do I do about the Social Security number? Thank you! Nicole ![]() Hi Nicole, Once you get the information from IRS, write a letter to the Social Security Administration. Send them the information and ask that they make the correction. Call IRS at 800-829-1040 to alert them about the error. It will be harder to use Form 4852-T, since the W-2 isn't under your Social Security number. [Note to readers: This should be a lesson to anyone on payroll: LOOK at your paystubs RIGHT NOW, or anytime you start a new job, to catch these things. Don't wait until you get that W-2. ] Best wishes, Eva Rosenberg Your TaxMama |
