In August 2001, I wrote an article explaining how the Sec 529 college plans work. They're a wonderful way to save for college - if you, your employer, your friends, or relatives have big bucks. But, I added a twist - a way to use them for your own retirement. At the time, I was hit with a storm of criticism from financial professionals who thought this was not feasible, impossible, even preposterous. Knowing that others are often wiser, or better informed than I am in these areas, I decided to research further, when I had time. Well, this month, I made the time. I talked to experts - and IRS. You're going to love what I found out. It's all in this month's CBS.MarketWatch.com article. How to use a college-fund 529 plan for your own retirement I learned much more, that didn't fit in the limited space in that article. So next month, stay tuned for an expanded article right here, teaching you more tricks to perform with 529 plans. |
