Last week, we had a question from Elizabeth in Dallas, TX about ITINs - alien tax registration numbers.

We got this reply from TaxMama's International Tax Guru, Roger B. Adams

<TaxPro Replies>

Dear Eva,

On the question from the lady who just got her ITIN:

If she received an ITIN, and is not a resident yet she may put in the number in the spouse's social security area.

Then, across the top of the return, write " Husband is US citizen (or green card holder), wife elects under section 6013(g).

The tax return should have been filed with the request for the ITIN accompanying the W-7 when sent to Bensalem, PA.

Getting an ITIN is taking a very long time these days.

Acceptance Agent
