» From: South Carolina Dear TaxMama: I am trying to find out if I still owe taxes from the year 2000. I got a letter 2 years ago but nothing else. The letter just said to call IRS. What should I do to find out if I owe taxes still. And can it count against me if I go to get a house? Thanks April ![]() Hi April, Do the logical thing. Call IRS 800-829-1040. They're the only ones who can answer that question. And yes, if IRS filed a lien, it will show up on one or all of your credit reports. So, you could pull a report and find out .... but it might be on one of the others. There are three primary agencies the mortgage companies check with before issuing credit. So pulling Experian won't be enough. Just save yourself some stress. Call IRS. Best wishes, Eva Rosenberg Your TaxMama |
