FTB Double-Dips Into Taxpayers' Accounts

Courtesy of Spidell

Approximately 4,000 taxpayers had their FTB tax debited twice from their bank accounts as the result of a processing problem.

The FTB is working with banks to reverse the double-debit and any resulting bank charges. If the double-debit caused creditor fees (such as late charges incurred because of insufficient funds).

The FTB has provided a specific phone number to call with questions about the accidental double-debit of some taxpayers' accounts. The phone number, (916) 845-0353, will be available during normal business hours and on Saturday, April 24, from 8:00 a.m. until 5 p.m. This number will also be included in a letter the FTB is sending to affected taxpayers.

The FTB has created additional checking processes to avoid a repeat of this mistake.

[TaxMama: See, that's why I absolutely refuse to use bank account debits. When they do it to credit cards, it's bad enough - but from your bank account, that's an immediate overdraft. Whew - we all new California was hurting for money - but, like this?]
