This week, we stumbled across a big IRS boo-boo. If you were using the information on their website to look up the amount of your Advance Child tax credit, it may have been wrong. We just got the first notice, this week, on an e-filed return. IRS held back $400 from the refund due to an unreported refund. We printed out IRS report from their website before preparing the return. It showed $400.00. After the return was filed, IRS took another $400. When we go their website now, it shows $800. I printed out the form on another client on 03/27/04. It showed -0-. She told me that she had received a check. Yesterday (04/08/04), IRS's website says she got $400.00 IRS has been alerted. But if you're getting a notice, you'll know why. When I spoke to IRS yesterday, they couldn't tell me if the original information was correct, or the current data.
