E-Filing Alert from IRS

A large number of e-filed returns are requiring correction to the Child TaxCredit and the Additional Child Tax Credit. As a result, refunds for these returns may be delayed.

Most errors are due to taxpayers and or preparers incorrectly adjusting these credits for the amount of the Advanced Child Tax Credit. The correct amount of the Advanced Child Tax Credit can be found by visiting irs.gov. or calling 800-829-1040.

To obtain the credit, enter the filing status and number of exemptions from the 2002 return. Please note that the credit follows the taxpayer and not the child.

[TaxMama Says: Be SURE to let your Tax Pro know if you received the check last year. If not, you don't want that amount added to this year's tax, do you?]
