Dear TaxMama:

My brother died and left my 11 yr old some life insurance money. Does she claim the interest? Or do I put it on my return? Or do I n thing with it?

It earned $689.00 in interest.

Chris

TaxMama Replies
Hi Chris,

So sad to learn about your brother. Sounds like a generous guy.

Add it to your tax return, using Form 8615

Use the form even though the interest is under $1500, at least you've reported the income.

But there will be no taxes due. See, that was easy

Best wishes,

Eva Rosenberg
