Dear TaxMama:

How is the tax rebate divided in a divorce. Is it by the % of each W-2 income?

Marian

TaxMama Replies
Dear Marian,

It's however you and your ex decide to split it.

Frankly, the rebate isn't really extra money. It was just an early refund of your own, regular taxes.

If you were filing separately, you'd each have gotten the benefit of half the rebate - up to $300 each.

For all the details, read TaxMama's FAQs about rebates

Best wishes,
