» From: Sacramento, CA Hello TaxMama: I'm not sure if you can send me in the right direction or not, but here is my question. How or where can I write, call or email to about viewing another persons past income tax filing information? Freedom of information act covers a lot but really doesn't help. Please advise. Thank You for your time in this matter. Regards, Ken ![]() You can't. At least, not without their permission. Period. If you have their permission, you can get them to sign Form 2848, Power of Attorney and place the request with IRS. Or, if it is a legal matter, you have to get a judge to subpoena the information. There are no other ways. And I am thankful there aren't. I'd hate to know that just anyone could get their hands on my personal data without my knowledge and consent. And please, don't try to persuade a friend at IRS to just take a peek for you. You could do more than just get them fired. IRS does not take that kind of thing lightly. Sorry I couldn't help more. Eva Rosenberg Your TaxMama P.S. Actually, I just thought of three other ways to get that information. But they're sneaky and underhanded. So, uh,uh! |
