Really Cutting Taxes

» From: Florida

Hi Eva,

And I wish you a very prosperous, healthy and happy New Year.

I was doing a search on Google titled something like, least expensive tax states, I want to start a recruiting co. this year from my virtual office (live in FL) but know taxes are a biggie, so trying to do some research (even though I know enough to be dangerous -) )

Bottom line, I'm not wealthy but taxes irk me, they are becoming onerous. I've noticed recently that many co's are saying like - "accenture a Bermuda co." I'm noticing more & more are setting up shop in Bermuda.

Taxes a complex subject I know nothing about them except I don't like them.

I just want to "try" & do it right the 1st time, vs. trying to fix something later.

If Bermuda, why not Grand Caymans?

Elaine

Dear Elaine,

Just a bit of free advice .... if you want to do it right.

If you're running a business in the USA, register it here.

IRS is quite aware of offshore scams and have a task force set up specifically to catch people. The penalties are high. And let me tell you, those IRS agents really enjoy their jobs.

Incidentally, the US just signed a tax treaty with the Caymans authorizing an exchange of information about their depositors. If we don't already have an agreement with Bermuda, count it - it will come.

Sounds like you have a good potential business. It may be worthwhile to leave the tax stuff to a pro who enjoys it. Meanwhile, you'd be free to earn the big bucks, filling those jobs.

Best wishes
